Two MPs from Kyrgyzstan have joined the observer delegation for the Russian State Duma elections

Gulya Kozhokulova and Mirlan Zheenchoroev, members of the Jogorku Kenesh, are taking part in monitoring the elections for the Russian State Duma as international observers representing the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly. In total, the observer group comprises 96 people from CIS countries and experts from an international institute.

Kozhokulova and Zheenchoroev are working as part of the international observer group. It includes MPs and senators from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Before commencing their work in St Petersburg, the observers held an organisational meeting and discussed the monitoring plan. Earlier, they had met with representatives of the State Duma, the Federation Council, the Central Election Commission of Russia and the CIS Executive Committee.

The observers are working in Moscow, St Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Astrakhan, Belgorod, Petrozavodsk, Saratov, the Leningrad and Novgorod regions, as well as in 20 countries abroad.

Experts from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly also presented the results of their long-term monitoring of the election campaign. In addition, the observers discussed the progress of the campaign with the leadership of St Petersburg and the Constitutional Court.

The CIS Interparliamentary Assembly regularly sends international observers to elections in the organisation’s member states. On this occasion, monitoring is being carried out both in Russian regions and outside Russia.
