12/22/2025, 10:25The Supreme Eurasian Economic Council has approved a concept for the development of tourism within the Eurasian Economic Union. The document defines priority areas for the development of the industry and measures to expand economic cooperation between EAEU countries.
According to Bakhyt Sultanov, Minister of Economy and Financial Policy of the Eurasian Economic Commission, the Concept is practical in nature and provides for specific steps to increase mutual tourist trips.
In particular, there are plans to develop new Eurasian tourist routes connecting the countries of the Union, as well as to create a special section on tourism on the official EAEU portal with information on the tourist potential of the member states.
According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, in 2024 tourism accounted for about 10% of global GDP and provided one in ten jobs worldwide. Experts note that the industry has not only recovered from the pandemic, but in a number of regions has exceeded pre-crisis levels.
At the same time, in the EAEU countries, the share of tourism in GDP averages about 3%, which indicates significant growth potential. The Union states are already implementing national strategies aimed at improving tourist safety, improving the quality of services, developing infrastructure, training personnel and attracting investment.
According to the EEC's assessment, the implementation of the Concept will increase mutual tourist flows, boost the contribution of tourism to the economies of the EAEU countries and strengthen the competitiveness of the industry within the Union.
