EAEU to launch service for searching information on industrial facilities

On 12 September, the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission approved a draft agreement on the creation of a service for searching information on industrial property objects protected in the EAEU countries. The document has been sent to the Union states for the necessary procedures prior to signing.

The initiative is being implemented as part of Strategy-2025 and provides for the creation of a common information resource that will combine information on trademarks, service marks, geographical indications and appellations of origin of goods registered in Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.

The aim of the new service is to provide businesses, rights holders, patent attorneys and government agencies with quick access to data on a ‘one-stop shop’ basis.

"This service is not just a technical solution, it is a direct investment in the protection of innovation and fair competition throughout the Union. It will reduce the time and financial costs of verifying the uniqueness of a trademark or appellation of origin, as well as increase the transparency and effectiveness of intellectual property rights protection," said Bakhyt Sultanov, Minister of Economy and Financial Policy of the EEC.
