A World Bank expert has named the Kemin District as one of the most promising areas for investment

The Kemin District has one of the highest investment potentials in Kyrgyzstan thanks to its industry, rare-earth metals and other mineral resources, according to Maxim Semenyak, an expert at the World Bank and the Institute for Development Policy.

Speaking at the conference ‘Social and Economic Development of Regions in Kyrgyzstan: Planning, Data and Accountability’ in Bishkek, Semenyak noted that each district has its own specialisation. He said that the Kemin district stands out for its industrial potential, whilst the Jeti-Oguz district has a strong position in the tourism sector.

The expert also reported that foreign investors have recently shown increased interest in mineral extraction. Among the countries active in this area, he named Russia, China, Western European states and Japan.

At the same time, domestic investors are increasingly investing in the processing of agricultural products, creating value chains within the country.

Semenyak singled out the At-Bashinsky District, which, he said, has managed to significantly increase tourist numbers, is developing its logistics potential thanks to its proximity to the border with China, and is expanding its agricultural processing capabilities.
