06/07/2026, 13:53The cause of the widespread power cut in Bishkek on 6 June was damage to the 110 kV ‘Parkovaya’–‘Ala-Archa’ high-voltage power line during construction work. However, energy officials had warned contractors in advance of the need to comply with safety requirements.
According to the energy company, an official notice was delivered to representatives of the construction site as early as 28 May. It contained a warning that work must not be carried out in breach of the established distances from power lines and that measures must be taken to protect energy infrastructure.
However, on 6 June, a HOWO lorry damaged a wire on the section between pylons No. 23 and No. 24. This resulted in an incident that led to a temporary power cut affecting some consumers in the capital.
The company emphasised that the ‘Parkovaya’–‘Ala-Archa’ line is one of Bishkek’s key power supply facilities. It transmits electricity between the city’s major substations and ensures the stability of the power system.
Following the damage to the line, the relay protection and emergency safety systems were automatically triggered. These systems are designed to prevent more serious technical failures, which is why the electricity supply to some consumers was temporarily restricted until the necessary switching operations and repair work were completed.
Power company representatives also pointed out that damage to power infrastructure poses a threat to public safety and can lead to power cuts for thousands of customers. Under Kyrgyz law, the party at fault will be required to compensate for the damage caused. Details of the incident will be forwarded to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
