Kyrgyzstan State Development Bank Funds Naryn Region Hydro Plant Construction

On January 26, the State Development Bank signed an agreement to finance the construction of the Kulanak hydroelectric power plant in the Naryn region.

The hydroelectric power plant will be located in the village of Kulanak on the Naryn River. The project's installed capacity will be 100 MW, with an estimated annual output of 435 million kWh, which is expected to reduce the country's energy deficit by 11%.

The project is expected to have a comprehensive socio-economic impact. In particular, the construction and commissioning of the hydropower plant will help strengthen Kyrgyzstan's position in the regional electricity market, reduce the dependence of the energy sector and the national economy on fluctuations in fuel markets, and increase the revenue side of local and national budgets.

In addition, the project envisages the creation of up to 100 permanent jobs in the region and an increase in the area of irrigated land in the Kulanak Valley. This should have a positive impact on the development of agriculture in the Naryn region.

The financing of the Kulanak HPP construction is seen as part of efforts to increase domestic power generation and improve the sustainability of the country's energy system.
