AI will soon be able to create new knowledge

OpenAI's chief scientist Jakub Pahocki said that modern artificial intelligence models will soon be able to independently generate new ideas and knowledge, which could radically change the approach to science and business.

According to him, modern AI demonstrates the ability to autonomously generate ideas and insights, which he describes as a form of ‘reasoning’ that is different from human thinking.

Pachotsky noted that his understanding of AGI (artificial general intelligence) has changed: whereas AlphaGo's victory in the game of Go or passing the Turing test were previously considered important milestones, the key criterion now is the system's ability to deliver economic value and conduct autonomous research.

The expert predicts that the first practical applications of autonomous AI, for example in software development, could appear as early as 2025, with more large-scale research by the end of the decade.

OpenAI and Microsoft have agreed to measure progress in AGI development through economic indicators, including a return on investment of up to $100 billion. Pakhotsky is confident that AI is already showing signs of an ability to conduct innovative research, which could significantly accelerate scientific progress.
