Cotton wool imports into Kyrgyzstan have fallen by almost 75%

Between January and May 2026, Kyrgyzstan imported 713.6 tonnes of cotton wool. This is 74.8% less than during the same period last year.

According to statistics from the National Statistics Committee, 713.6 tonnes of cotton wool worth 71.4 million KGS ($816,100) were imported into Kyrgyzstan during the first five months of 2026. A year earlier, imports totalled 2,831.6 tonnes, worth 187.8 million KGS ($2.15 million).

In volume terms, imports fell to 25.2 per cent of the previous year’s level, whilst in monetary terms they fell to 38 per cent.

Uzbekistan became the largest supplier of cotton wool, from which 561.9 tonnes were imported, accounting for around 79 per cent of the total volume. Russia ranked second with 124.4 tonnes, followed by China with 23.8 tonnes.

Despite the sharp decline in imports, Uzbekistan retains its status as the main supplier of wadding to the Kyrgyz market.

During the corresponding period in 2025, Kyrgyzstan imported 2.8 thousand tonnes of wadding, with the majority of supplies also coming from Uzbekistan.
