Inflation in Kyrgyzstan has risen to 10.1% — putting pressure on prices and household budgets

At the end of the first quarter of 2026, inflation in Kyrgyzstan stood at 10.1%, up from 9.3% in the previous quarter. In March, the year-on-year rate reached 11%.

Price rises continued to accelerate, driven by both external and internal factors.

Externally, pressure on prices was driven by geo-economic instability in the Middle East, the restructuring of supply chains, fluctuations in global commodity markets, and inflationary trends in Kyrgyzstan’s trading partner countries. Put simply, imports and global goods are becoming more expensive, and domestic prices are rising in tandem.

Domestically, the main contributors were rising food prices and the revision of service tariffs. In particular, the changes affected electricity and housing and communal services, as well as the pricing mechanism in the catering sector following the abolition of the service charge.

Additional pressure was created by rising consumer demand against a backdrop of increasing household incomes and expanding government spending.

The conclusion is simple: prices are rising not because of a single factor, but because of several at once — from global markets to domestic tariff policy and demand.
