Foreign owners of Kyrgyz banks have invested 4.6 billion KGS in them over the past year

By the end of June, the foreign portion of the paid-up authorised capital of Kyrgyzstan’s banks had reached 31 billion KGS. Over the course of the year, this figure increased by 4.6 billion KGS, or 17.5 per cent, according to data from the National Bank.

In the corresponding period of 2025, the volume of foreign capital stood at 26.39 billion KGS.

Despite the growth in monetary terms, the share of foreign participation in the banking sector’s capital fell significantly — from 17.9 per cent to 12.7 per cent, or by 5.2 percentage points.

This is because the total paid-up authorised capital of banks grew considerably faster. Over the year, it rose from 147.1 billion KGS to 243.7 billion KGS — an increase of almost 66 per cent.

Thus, foreign investment in banks’ capital increased, but its relative share fell against the backdrop of a more rapid increase in capital from other sources.

The largest increase in foreign capital was recorded at Kompanion Bank: over the year, the figure rose from approximately 1 billion KGS to 3.5 billion KGS. At O!Bank, it rose from 1.2 billion KGS to 1.8 billion KGS.

Furthermore, the 2026 financial statements show foreign capital of 1 billion KGS at Asman Bank and a further 755 million KGS at Alma Finance Bank. At the same time, at Eurasian Savings Bank, the figure fell from 381 million KGS to 76 million KGS.

The largest volumes of foreign capital at the end of June were concentrated in four banks:

  • Keremet Bank – 6.52 billion KGS;
  • Demir Bank – 6 billion KGS;
  • Optima Bank – 5.44 billion KGS;
  • Companion Bank – 3.5 billion KGS.

Together, these banks accounted for around 69 per cent of all foreign capital in the banking sector.

As at 30 June, there were 26 commercial banks operating in Kyrgyzstan. The National Bank notes that the figures for this period are provisional. The regulator also estimates the banking sector’s total net capital at 288.8 billion KGS – an increase of 33.5 per cent since the start of the year.
