Tens of millions of dollars have flowed out of Kyrgyzstan in eight months

From January to August, Kyrgyz citizens sent $266.5 million abroad, most of it to Russia. These figures were provided by the National Bank.

Of this amount, $45.3 million was transferred in August. This is almost twice as much as in January this year ($22.9 million) and $9.3 million more than in August 2024.

While in 2024 there was a downward trend in outflows at this time, this year there has been an upward trend. More than 90% of outflows are transfers to CIS countries.

Where did the money go?

  • Russia $236.6 million — leads by a huge margin;
  • Kazakhstan — $2.3 million;
  • Other countries — $4.7 million.

Outside the CIS, the largest amounts went to Turkey — $20.5 million. The other destinations are less significant:

  • United States — $600,000;
  • South Korea — $500,000;
  • Other countries — $1.4 million.
