08/24/2026, 12:38Work on the major refurbishment and improvement of the racecourse in the town of Cholpon-Ata has been completed.
As part of the project, which began in 2026, the main elements of the facility have been refurbished. In particular, the VIP area, guest facilities, stands, administrative offices, the basement and the car park have been refurbished. The utility networks have also been upgraded and the grounds landscaped.
During the refurbishment work, the porcelain stoneware flooring and seating in the stands, the granite elements of the main entrance, the roofing and the paving stones were replaced. Fences and walls have been painted, and water pipes and sanitary facilities have been replaced. Furthermore, the fountains have been repaired, the sewer pipes have been cleared, and the stands, stained-glass windows and the grounds have been tidied up.
The project was funded from the republican budget.
Preparatory work is currently underway at the racecourse for the upcoming World Nomad Games, including the installation of a stage, fitting-out work and other organisational activities.
Incidentally, the history of the Cholpon-Ata Racecourse dates back to the 1930s. The venue was refurbished in 2014 in preparation for the First World Nomad Games, and was completely renovated in 2018. Today, the racecourse is one of the country’s largest equestrian sports complexes and has a capacity of 10,000 spectators.
