Kyrgyzstan is preparing to launch the production of electric cars under the national brand BARS

Kyrgyzstan is preparing to launch the production of electric vehicles under the national brand BARS. The plant is scheduled to commence operations in the third quarter of 2026, with a planned production capacity of up to 10,000 vehicles per year.

As part of the project, an automotive industrial cluster is being established, designed for the production and assembly of passenger cars, commercial vehicles and specialised vehicles with electric motors.

In the initial phase, the vehicles will be produced using a major-assembly method. In the future, the plant plans to move to a minor-assembly method, and subsequently to a full production cycle. This will enable a gradual increase in the proportion of locally sourced components and the establishment of production of individual automotive components in Kyrgyzstan.

BARS electric vehicles are planned to be supplied both to the domestic market and for export – primarily to countries in Central Asia and the Eurasian Economic Union.

The facility will be situated on a 15-hectare site. The project is expected to create 100 jobs. At present, it is estimated to be 75 per cent complete.

The project is fully funded by the investor’s own resources. The state has provided support by allocating the land plot.

We would add that earlier this week, on 10 August, the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission decided to increase the quota for duty-free imports of electric vehicles into Kyrgyzstan to 25,000 electric vehicles (+10,000).
