Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan intend to increase bilateral trade to $3 billion by 2030

The second forum on interregional cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan has opened in Kyrgyzstan. The event was attended by the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Adylbek Kasymaliev, and the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Bektanov, who was in the country on an official visit.

As Adylbek Kasymaliev noted, the countries intend to increase the volume of bilateral trade to $3 billion by 2030. According to him, the development of a strategic partnership and allied relations between the two states is helping to strengthen economic ties.

As part of the forum, the Naryn, Issyk-Kul and Jalal-Abad regions of Kyrgyzstan are signing cooperation agreements with six regions of Kazakhstan: Almaty, Zhetysu, East Kazakhstan, Turkestan, Karaganda and Kyzylorda regions.

Among the priority areas for cooperation, Kasymaliev highlighted the expansion of bilateral trade, the development of transport and logistics infrastructure, and the creation of conditions for direct cooperation between the regions.

He highlighted joint projects in particular, including an industrial trade and logistics complex near the ‘Ak-Tilik – Karasu’ border crossing and a wholesale and distribution centre near Almaty.

According to the Prime Minister, further cooperation should be aimed at implementing investment initiatives, developing industrial cooperation and creating new jobs.

Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Olzhas Bektanov also emphasised the importance of the forum for strengthening trade, economic and investment ties. The Kazakh side expressed interest in implementing joint projects.

It is expected that the agreements reached will form the basis for new partnership agreements and long-term contracts between the regions of the two countries.
