Kyrgyzstan and China are exploring the possibility of establishing a center for traditional medicine

A meeting was held at the Ministry of Health between Damir Osmonov, Minister of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, and Liu Jiangping, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Kyrgyz Republic.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of Kyrgyz-Chinese cooperation in the field of healthcare. The Minister of Health expressed gratitude to the Chinese side for initiating the meeting and noted the high level of bilateral relations, based on mutual respect, good-neighborliness, and strategic partnership.

It was emphasized that cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the People’s Republic of China in the healthcare sector is carried out within the framework of an agreement between the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic and the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China, and is also developed on a regular basis within the framework of the Kyrgyz-Chinese Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation and cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Minister Damir Osmanov noted the significant contribution of the Chinese side to the development of Kyrgyzstan’s healthcare system, including the provision of humanitarian aid, the supply of medical equipment and medicines, as well as the organization of educational programs and internships for Kyrgyz specialists at medical institutions in China.

During the talks, the Chinese side presented a number of initiatives aimed at expanding practical cooperation. In particular, they discussed the implementation of the “Express Health – A Bright Journey” project, which provides free eye surgeries for patients with cataracts, as well as the continuation of programs to provide medical care to children with congenital heart defects.

The parties also considered the prospects for establishing cooperation with the People’s Hospital of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, including the organization of mutual visits and the possibility of creating joint medical projects, including a joint hospital.
Special attention was paid to the establishment of a Kyrgyz-Chinese research center for traditional medicine, as well as to the development of cooperation in the field of pharmaceuticals and the use of medicinal plants.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness to further strengthen bilateral cooperation aimed at developing medical infrastructure, improving the quality of medical care, and expanding public access to modern medical services.
