Kyrgyzstan and China are interested in cooperating on the production of medicinal plant seeds

Deputy Prime Minister Bakyt Töröbaev held a meeting with a delegation from the People's Republic of China led by Ho Weiping, Deputy Chairman of the People's Political Consultative Conference of Gansu Province.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and China in the agro-industrial sector. Particular attention was paid to the joint production of vegetable and medicinal plant seeds. Gansu Province has high agricultural potential, accounts for up to 70% of seed production in China and is known for its research institutes.

During the negotiations, the issue of combating thorny altigan and karagan shrubs in the Suusamyr Valley of Kyrgyzstan was also raised. The parties discussed the possibility of not only eliminating these shrubs, which occupy pasture land, but also processing them to obtain feed and fertilisers. In this regard, it is planned to establish a joint venture.

In addition, issues were discussed regarding the provision of special agricultural equipment from China to Kyrgyzstan for potato cultivation, the exchange of experience and the training of highly qualified specialists. Experts from the relevant departments of the two countries will begin joint work in this area.

During the negotiations, it was noted that cooperation in these areas will increase the volume of trade between the two countries.

According to statistics, trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and China amounted to $23 billion in 2024 and reached $22 billion in the first nine months of this year. At the same time, exports of agricultural products from Kyrgyzstan doubled.
