Kyrgyzstan removed from the EU’s aviation safety ‘blacklist’

The Kyrgyz Republic has been removed from the list of air carriers subject to a ban on operating flights to the European Union.

A notification from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport states that all air carriers certified in Kyrgyzstan have been removed from the list of air carriers subject to a ban on flights to the EU.

The decision was taken following the meeting of the EU Air Safety Committee (ASC) on 19–21 May 2026 and will be formalised in a corresponding European Commission Regulation.

Kyrgyzstan had been on this list since 2006.

In recent years, on the instructions of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Zhaparov, systematic work has been carried out to reform civil aviation, strengthen state oversight of flight safety and bring the national system into line with ICAO international standards.

The European Commission has highly commended the progress made, including the outcomes of technical consultations, the assessment visit in March 2026 and the successful hearings in Brussels.

The European Commission will continue its technical cooperation with the Kyrgyz side to sustain the results achieved.
