Kyrgyzstan may become a green energy exporting country

The Minister of Energy stated that today about 90 per cent of all electricity generated in Kyrgyzstan is green energy. First of all, it is about hydroelectric power plants, which form the basis of the country's energy system. In the coming years, they plan to increase the share of green generation through solar and wind power plants and small hydroelectric power plants.

According to the minister, global demand for green electricity is growing, and Kyrgyzstan can take its place in this process. A project of the Kemin-Torugart export line is already being worked out, which will make it possible to supply green energy to the People's Republic of China in the future.

‘Globally, the price of green energy is high. And we have every chance to become an exporting country. The main thing is to competently develop the infrastructure,’ the head of the Ministry of Energy emphasised.

In order for residents to see for themselves how the country's energy sector is produced, on 16 April 2025 the Ministry of Energy organised the second free excursion to the facilities of the industry. The programme includes visits to operating and under-construction HPPs, modernised substations and an insight into the power generation process.
