Kyrgyzstan has banned the import of fish feed for six months

The Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers has introduced a temporary ban on the import of fish feed. The restriction will remain in force for six months, starting from 10 September 2026.

The ban applies to fish feed falling under subheading 2309 90 ‘other’.

The restriction does not apply to feed produced in EAEU countries, transit shipments, products intended for scientific, breeding and experimental purposes, or feed whose supply is provided for under international agreements.

The import of fish feed for which importers have paid before 9 September 2026 and which has been confirmed by the veterinary service is also permitted. A separate provision allows for the import of raw materials for the production of fish feed, subject to written confirmation from the relevant ministry.

The Cabinet of Ministers explains the decision as being driven by the need to support domestic fish feed production, develop aquaculture, ensure food security and reduce the domestic market’s dependence on imported products.

The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and the Processing Industry has been tasked with compiling a list of domestic producers, monitoring the market supply of fish feed and taking measures to develop its production and export.

Decree No. 606 was adopted on 9 September 2026 and came into force on 10 September.
