Kyrgyzstan has summarised the results of its SCO chairmanship

Kyrgyzstan’s Ambassador to China, Aktilek Musaeva, and the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, Nurlan Yermekbaev, held a briefing in Beijing on the outcome of the SCO summit, which took place in Bishkek from 31 August to 1 September. 

At the meeting, Musaeva spoke about Kyrgyzstan’s plans and priorities during its SCO chairmanship in 2025–2026. Among the key events, she highlighted the organisation’s 25th anniversary and the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of SCO Member States in Bishkek.

The Ambassador also announced Kyrgyzstan’s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027–2028 and spoke about state and official visits by foreign leaders to Kyrgyzstan.

Separately, Musaeva presented the results of the Sixth World Nomad Games, which took place in Kyrgyzstan in early September.

Furthermore, the Ambassador invited partners to take part in the Second Global Mountain Summit ‘Bishkek+25’, which will be held in Kyrgyzstan in October 2027.

It should be recalled that, following the SCO summit in Bishkek, the Bishkek Declaration was adopted to mark the organisation’s 25th anniversary, and 28 documents were signed, including 24 decisions by heads of state and four intergovernmental and inter-agency agreements.

As part of the summit, new permanent security bodies were established — the Universal Centre for Countering Security Challenges and Threats and the Executive Committee of the Anti-Narcotics Centre. Programmes to combat drug addiction and the spread of synthetic drugs up to 2030 were also approved, as well as the Plan for Cooperation on International Information Security for 2026–2028.

In the transport sector, an Action Plan for the Development of Ports and Logistics Centres for 2026–2030 has been adopted. Furthermore, the countries approved a Programme for the creation of a ‘green technology corridor’ up to 2030.

Separate documents concern the development of artificial intelligence and data centres, the conservation of biodiversity and the fight against climate change. A protocol on amendments and additions to the SCO Charter was also signed.

The Bishkek Declaration reaffirmed the countries’ positions on issues of international security, the fight against terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and cybercrime, as well as the development of economic, energy and digital cooperation.

The SCO chairmanship for 2026–2027 has passed to Pakistan.
