05/28/2026, 10:27Erkinbek Akunbaev, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan, announced at the 5th Forum of Heads of Regions of SCO Member States that economic cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and SCO member states was growing, and invited partners to participate in joint projects in industry, logistics and tourism.
In his speech, he noted the increase in Kyrgyzstan’s trade turnover with SCO countries, as well as the implementation of major integration projects. These include the construction of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway and the opening of the ‘Bedel’ checkpoint.
According to Akunbaev, these projects should strengthen the region’s transport links and create new opportunities for trade and investment.
He also highlighted the potential of the ‘Tamchy’ free economic zone, located on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul. He said that Kyrgyzstan is interested in establishing new platforms for cooperation between the regions of the SCO member states and invites investors to work together.
“We invite all interested parties to create new areas of growth and mutually beneficial cooperation,” he said.
Speaking about Kyrgyzstan’s tourism potential, Akunbaev emphasised that the republic regards the development of tourism as one of the priority areas of state economic policy.
“Being here at Issyk-Kul, I cannot fail to note the potential we have for developing cooperation in the field of tourism,” he said.
The minister cited the international tourism cluster “Asman Resort” as one of the key projects, which, he said, should become a new growth driver for the tourism industry and expand opportunities for international partnership in this sector.
The Forum of Heads of Regions of SCO Member States is taking place on 28 May in Cholpon-Ata. As part of the event, regions, cities and free economic zones of the participating countries are signing agreements on trade, economic and investment cooperation.
