Kyrgyzstan ranked 50th out of 169 countries in terms of sustainable development

Kyrgyzstan ranks 50th out of 169 countries in the Sustainable Development Index. This was announced today by Kanykey Orozbayeva, a spokesperson for the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Kyrgyzstan, at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh working group on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

At the meeting, MPs, representatives of government bodies, international organisations and experts discussed the implementation of the SDGs in the country and the work of the relevant working group.

Representatives from various ministries outlined indicators in the economic and social spheres. Key areas include economic growth, reducing unemployment, access to healthcare and education, gender equality and environmental safety.

According to Orozbaeva, a number of international initiatives and projects are being implemented in Kyrgyzstan to achieve the SDGs. She emphasised the need to combine the efforts of the state, international organisations and other stakeholders to enhance their effectiveness.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals encompass 17 areas – ranging from ending poverty and ensuring quality education to protecting the environment and achieving sustainable economic growth.
