China dominates the electronic cigarette market in Kyrgyzstan

Chinese products effectively dominate the Kyrgyzstan e-cigarette market. According to data from the State Customs Service, China is not only the leader in terms of supply volume, but also far ahead of all other countries, accounting for the bulk of imports.

In 2024, more than 83 tons of electronic cigarettes and nicotine delivery systems were imported into Kyrgyzstan. In the first eight months of 2025, more than 12 tons were imported, with the vast majority of this volume again coming from the People's Republic of China.

Thus, in 2023, 49.6 tons of electronic cigarettes were supplied from China to Kyrgyzstan out of a total import volume of 49.9 tons, meaning that 99.3% of the market was effectively controlled by Chinese manufacturers. Small quantities came from the United Kingdom (160 kg), Hong Kong (116 kg), and the Republic of Korea (22 kg), but their combined share did not have a significant impact on the import structure.

In 2024, China's share declined but remained dominant, accounting for 81.58 tons out of 88.74 tons (or 91.9%). Kazakhstan became China's most notable competitor, importing 5.4 tons of electronic products. Hong Kong was the third largest supplier in terms of volume, sharply increasing its shipments to 1.76 tons (a 15.2-fold increase).

As a result, total supplies of electronic cigarettes to Kyrgyzstan in 2024 almost doubled, and their value reached 355.25 million KGS, compared to 252.1 million KGS a year earlier.

In the first eight months of this year, 12.4 tons of electronic cigarettes and nicotine delivery systems were supplied to Kyrgyzstan. All supplies came from China, and the cost of the products is estimated at almost 46 million KGS.

It should be noted that the WHO warns of serious health risks, especially among minors, and Kyrgyzstan, as a party to the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, is obliged to take measures to restrict the distribution of nicotine-containing products.
