This was announced by Kanimet Toktosunov, Chairman of the Board of Kumtor Operating Company CJSC.
According to him, the contractor was selected following an open tender. The company will implement the project under an EPC (engineering, procurement, construction) contract, i.e. on a ‘turnkey’ basis — from design and equipment supply to construction and commissioning of the facilities.
Under the contract, China Nerin Engineering will undertake the construction of a gold processing plant, a tailings storage facility, a shift camp and infrastructure for the future mine. The main works are scheduled for completion within two years.
Kumtor Operating Company emphasised that the contractor will not be involved in the development of the deposit. The development of Togolok is being carried out by Kumtor Gold Company without recourse to debt financing.
It is also noted that China Nerin Engineering has been in operation since 1986 and specialises in projects in the mining, energy and industrial sectors. The company has carried out projects in a number of countries, including Russia, Kazakhstan, Australia and Canada.
The Togolok deposit is regarded as one of the major investment projects in Kumtor Gold Company’s portfolio, with proven reserves of almost 20 tonnes of gold.
