A cooperative in the Tonsky district has introduced sprinkler systems to save 30–40% of water

Against the backdrop of climate change and declining water resources, the Mukai cooperative is taking strategically important steps to establish a sustainable agricultural system and develop modern seed production.

The reduction of glaciers and the shortage of irrigation water have forced the farm to rely on new technologies, scientific approaches and innovative seed production methods.

The cooperative has introduced sprinkler systems that allow it to save 30-40% of water, maintain stable yields and reduce labour costs.

In 2023, the first unit was purchased, providing irrigation for up to 7 hectares per day.

In 2024, the purchase of two more sprinkler systems is planned. Irrigation lines and BSRs are under construction. This is not just a successful investment – it is a necessity.

The cooperative also uses biological methods to restore the soil: reducing dependence on chemical fertilisers; improving soil structure; achieving yields of up to 50–60 centners per hectare.

A 5-year crop rotation has been developed, providing for the alternation of cereals, potatoes and perennial grasses.

A project has also been implemented to produce humus using California worms, which contributes to long-term improvement in soil quality.

The cooperative focuses on the production of elite and first-generation seeds:

Seed stocks formed from the 2023 harvest. These results strengthen the seed security of the Tonsky district and increase its role in the agricultural market of the Issyk-Kul region.

The cooperative has everything it needs: warehouses with a total capacity of 2,500 tonnes; tractors and combine harvesters in working order.

The goals for 2027 are to expand the sown area to 272 hectares, create a competitive seed fund, and widely introduce water-saving technologies.

The cooperative's experience is an example of sustainable innovative development in agriculture. It provides income for the local economy, high-quality seeds for farmers, and contributes to regional food and seed security.
