Kyrgyz Foreign Minister: China is the main investor, whilst investment from Russia has fallen

China ranks first in terms of the volume of investment in Kyrgyzstan, whilst investment from Russia has declined. This was reported by Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Committee on International Affairs.

According to him, economic diplomacy is the main focus of Kyrgyzstan’s foreign policy. The Head of State and the Government have already issued a number of specific instructions to diplomatic missions.

“China is the leading investor. A great deal of direct investment and grant aid comes from the PRC, and the embassy’s contribution in this regard is very significant,” the Minister noted.

He added that Russia is the second major partner. Despite a decline in investment from that country in recent years, inter-regional cooperation continues to develop actively.

“Our consulates and embassy are establishing links with the regions, thereby increasing trade turnover. We are working particularly fruitfully with Tatarstan, Bashkortostan and Altai,” he emphasised.

Kulubaev also noted that, despite the technical assistance coming from European countries, it is difficult to attract direct investment from there in the current geopolitical situation.
