Kumtor is No Longer the Only Driver of Kyrgyzstan's Industry

In recent years, the contribution of Kyrgyzstan's largest gold mining enterprise — the Kumtor mine — to the country's industrial production has been gradually decreasing. This is evidenced by data from the National Statistical Committee over the past five years.

In 2019, the total industrial output in the republic amounted to 283.9 billion KGS, of which 154.8 billion was produced excluding Kumtor. At that time, its contribution accounted for more than 45% of the total volume.

By 2023, despite significant growth in total industrial production to 495.3 billion KGS, enterprises not related to the Kumtor development reached 313.9 billion KGS. As a result, Kumtor's share fell to about 37%, with the mine's weight in the industrial structure decreasing by more than eight percentage points.

This decline signals the growing diversification of Kyrgyzstan's industrial sector, with the increasing share of other industries.
