Kyrgyzstan has agreed to export grain to China via Torugart

Kyrgyzstan and China have agreed to expand the export of agricultural produce via the Torugart border crossing. In particular, grain crops from Kyrgyzstan will be supplied to China via this border crossing.

The agreement was reached on 22 September in Beijing during a meeting between Erlist Akunbekov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry, and Sun Meizhong, Minister of the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China.

It is noted that the new route will expand opportunities for the export of produce by farmers and agricultural producers in the Chui Region, as well as help to ease the burden on the ‘Erkeshtam’ border crossing point. The parties also discussed the possibility of extending the operating hours of ‘Torugart’.

In addition, three protocols were signed at the meeting, governing the conditions for the supply of Kyrgyz products to China. The documents set out quarantine and sanitary requirements for the export of horses, phytosanitary standards for fresh berries, and requirements for heat-treated lamb and goat meat products.

The parties also discussed the supply of fuel and lubricants from China to Kyrgyzstan. The Kyrgyz side thanked the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China for its assistance in ensuring uninterrupted supplies.
