Medical universities without state accreditation will not be able to admit new students

In Kyrgyzstan, medical educational institutions that have not passed state accreditation will be prohibited from enrolling new students. The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the relevant amendments to the accreditation procedure.

An educational institution that has been refused accreditation will only be able to obtain permission to graduate its current students during the current academic year. Before the start of the new academic year, the remaining students must be centrally transferred to other licensed medical educational institutions.

The licences of institutions that have not passed accreditation in the relevant specialisms will be suspended in accordance with the procedure laid down by law. Only accredited institutions will be able to issue state-recognised diplomas and certificates.

The document also establishes three forms of accreditation:

• initial accreditation — carried out free of charge no more than once a year at the expense of the national budget;
• renewal accreditation — paid for by the educational institution itself; an application must be submitted at least five months before the certificate expires;
• extraordinary accreditation — carried out on a fee-paying basis following a refusal of accreditation.

Following a refusal, a new application may be submitted no earlier than one year later. Fees paid for accreditation will not be refunded.
