05/20/2026, 12:09The Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned citizens about the increasing number of cases in which Kyrgyz nationals are being lured into criminal activities abroad under the pretext of employment.
According to the ministry, unknown individuals pose as employers on social media and offer high-paying jobs abroad. However, upon arrival abroad, citizens are forced to distribute drugs as “stashers” or transport contraband.
As a result, Kyrgyz citizens are detained by law enforcement agencies of foreign countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that so-called employers often pay for potential victims’ passports, tickets, and other expenses in advance to convince them to travel abroad.
According to the ministry, dozens of Kyrgyz citizens who have become involved in such schemes have already been detained abroad. The ministry cited Belarus as an example, where more than ten young Kyrgyz citizens were arrested in the first four months of 2026 alone.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged citizens not to trust offers of “easy and quick money” abroad, especially when it comes to dubious job openings without official employment contracts or transparent working conditions.
The ministry also recommends that in cases of threats, pressure, or attempts to involve individuals in illegal activities, they should immediately contact law enforcement agencies in Kyrgyzstan, and while abroad, contact local police and the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic via the hotline.
