Finance Minister: Six state-owned banks are not enough for Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan’s Finance Minister Ruslan Suynaliev has stated that having six state-owned banks is not a problem for the country. According to him, Kyrgyzstan’s economy is growing, and international financial institutions are giving the republic positive assessments. He made these remarks during the ‘Open Cabinet’ event.

Ruslan Suynaliev noted that Kyrgyzstan’s economy has strengthened significantly in recent years. According to him, the country’s GDP has now reached nearly 2 trillion KGS, whilst the state budget has exceeded 1 trillion KGS for the first time.

Against this backdrop, the minister stated that having six state-owned banks is considered a “small number” for Kyrgyzstan.

“Today, on the contrary, we try to travel abroad with such pride and conduct various negotiations. Therefore, six state-owned banks is not enough for us,” said the head of the Ministry of Finance.

He also emphasised that international financial institutions and rating agencies have begun to assess the economic situation in Kyrgyzstan positively.
