The Ministry of Transport has warned of the demolition of unauthorised structures along motorways

The Ministry of Transport has reiterated the ban on erecting unauthorised structures within motorway right-of-ways and roadside protection zones. Offenders will not only have to dismantle the structures but also cover the associated costs.

The Ministry of Transport has warned citizens and organisations that the construction and placement of structures within road right-of-ways and roadside safety zones without complying with legal requirements is prohibited.

The Ministry has reminded the public that the width of the right-of-way depends on the road category and ranges from 12 to 32 metres. At the same time, roadside safety zones are subject to special protection measures to ensure road safety and the development of road infrastructure.

Under the law, only road service facilities necessary to ensure traffic safety may be located in such zones, including bus stops, car parks and rest areas.

Any facilities constructed in breach of the established procedure will be deemed unlawful. Road owners are entitled to take measures to have them dismantled, and the costs of demolition and rectifying the consequences of the breaches shall be borne by the offenders.
