200 million KGS will be allocated for the modernisation of the irrigation canal in the Manas district

In the Manas district of the Talas region, the modernisation of the Kydyraly irrigation canal, built in 1977, has begun. Approximately 200 million KGS have been allocated for the work — the funds will be used to lay a modern concrete covering, which will reduce irrigation water losses and increase the efficiency of the irrigation system.

The reconstruction is being carried out using new technology involving geomembranes, geotextiles and cement, which will ensure a service life of up to 70 years. In the first stage, a 1 km section will be renovated, as this is where the greatest water losses were recorded during the summer season.

The Kydyraly Canal stretches for 18 km and provides irrigation for more than 7,700 hectares of agricultural land. Once the work is complete, it is expected that up to 2 cubic metres of water will be delivered to farms, which will have a positive impact on crop yields.

The modernisation is being carried out as part of a national programme to upgrade irrigation infrastructure covering 40 regions of the country. Each region has been allocated 10,000 square metres of concrete covering.
