The facility is being built as part of a public-private partnership between Chakan HPP JSC and Kyrgyz-China Hydropower LLC.
Work is already in full swing at the site in the Kara-Suu district: the area has been cleared and excavation work is underway for the future concrete structures. At the same time, the administrative building of the future station is being renovated — a symbolic gesture showing that the renewal is starting not only with the land, but also with the infrastructure.
The Papan HPP is located on the lower reach of the Papan Reservoir and will combine three 9 MW hydroelectric units, generating about 113 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. This will provide energy to thousands of homes and businesses in the south of the country and reduce the load on existing power grids.
