The mining tax generated 11.7 per cent less revenue for the Kyrgyz budget

Against a backdrop of overall growth in tax revenues, Kyrgyzstan’s budget revenue from the mining tax has fallen. In January–August 2026, the republican budget received 55.5 million KGS from this source — 7.3 million KGS, or 11.7 per cent, less than in the same period last year.

A year earlier, revenue from the mining tax amounted to 62.9 million KGS.

The Jalal-Abad region was the main source of this revenue. According to the ‘Open Budget’ portal, 36.15 million KGS in mining tax was transferred from there to the national budget – approximately 65 per cent of the total amount for the eight-month period.

Mining tax is credited in full to the national budget; therefore, this does not constitute revenue for the region’s local treasury. However, the regional breakdown shows where the most significant payments from the mining sector are actually concentrated.

This decline occurred at a time when total tax revenues for the state budget rose by 40.5 per cent to reach 387.1 billion KGS. Thus, revenue from mining moved in the opposite direction to the overall trend in tax collections.
