The National Bank of Kyrgyzstan studied European experience in banking supervision

During a working trip to Austria and the Czech Republic organized with the support of the World Bank, employees of the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan held a series of meetings with representatives of European financial institutions and the banking sector.

During the visit, the NBK delegation held talks with representatives of Oesterreichische Nationalbank, Česká národní banka, Raiffeisen Bank International AG, Erste Group Bank AG, and the Association of Austrian Banks and Bankers (Bankenverband).

The key topic of the meetings was the practical application of the SREP (Supervisory Review and Evaluation Process) methodology, which is widely used in European Union countries. The parties discussed the integration of supervisory tools into current banking regulation practices, as well as issues related to the organization of the internal supervisory process and the formation of final supervisory assessments.

Particular attention was paid to the interaction between the regulator and supervised organizations, the development of a risk-based approach, and the exchange of information.

European colleagues shared their experience of implementing SREP, including the use of stress testing, the development of macroprudential regulation, and the improvement of risk assessment procedures.
