12/22/2025, 21:25Today, December 22, the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan conducted its eighth currency intervention this year. This time, it sold $179.5 million on the interbank market, according to data from the regulator.
According to published information, the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan sold $106.5 million with settlements on the transaction date and another $73 million with settlements other than the transaction date. This is the largest intervention this year.
The December intervention was the latest in a series of currency operations by the National Bank in the second half of the year. Earlier, the regulator entered the market with currency sales on December 5 ($83 million), as well as in November, September, and April, smoothing out fluctuations in demand for the dollar.
In 2025, the National Bank acted only as a currency seller, responding to increased demand from market participants. In total, it sold $853 million in eight interventions. Despite active interventions, the official dollar exchange rate remains at 87.45 som.
