10/14/2025, 12:06A new auction has been announced in Kyrgyzstan for oil and gas exploration in the Kurgan area in the Chatkal district of the Jalal-Abad region. The starting price for the licence is just $340.
The 88.87-hectare site, located 25 kilometres north of the village of Jany-Bazar, remains completely unexplored. Therefore, bidding will start at the minimum amount. The hope is that the low threshold will attract companies willing to invest in geological exploration.
The auction is scheduled for 29 October. It will be held in the building of the Chatkal District Administration. To participate in the auction, applications must be submitted by 24 October to the office of the Kyrgyz Geological Service in Bishkek.
Despite the symbolic starting price, participation in the auction will cost the company more. Participants must pay a guarantee deposit of $1,000, as well as a participation fee of 10,000 soms.
The bidding increment is $34, and the maximum bid is $3,400. The winner will be the participant who offers the highest price. It is important to note that if the winner does not pay the declared amount within 15 banking days, the deposit will not be refunded.
The auction terms and conditions also specify the requirements for the winning company. It is obliged to submit a technical project for geological exploration, undergo environmental and industrial expertise, and report annually to the state.
