From swimming pools to toilets: what facilities are now available at holiday resorts in Kyrgyzstan

Holiday resorts in Kyrgyzstan have seen a significant expansion in infrastructure over the past five years. It is now easier for tourists to find swimming pools, massage parlours, as well as cash machines and business lounges. This is evidenced by data from the National Statistics Committee.

According to figures for 2025, there are now 216 swimming pools operating within leisure facilities – by comparison, in 2021 there were only 44. The number of massage parlours has risen to 286 from 41, whilst the number of baths and saunas has increased to 119 from 18. There are also far more paid, secure car parks: 322 compared to 50.

The ‘business’ infrastructure in such locations has also grown significantly. There are now 472 business centres and conference rooms, whereas five years ago there were just 62. The number of cash machines and payment terminals has risen to 452 from 25 — making it noticeably easier to withdraw cash or make payments whilst on holiday.

However, not all amenities are so popular amongst tourists. For example, following a peak in 2024 when there were 53 tennis courts, only 42 remain. There are also fewer billiards halls – 30 compared to 36 previously. Internet cafés have almost disappeared, with only two remaining instead of five.

At the same time, there are some clear growth leaders. The number of public toilets has risen to 756, compared with 219 in 2021. There are now 141 summer sports grounds, up from 65, whilst the number of fitness centres and entertainment clubs has risen to 75 from 13.
