10/27/2025, 16:00Today, October 27, during a working trip to the Jalal-Abad region, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov took part in the official launch ceremony of the Kara-Kul hydroelectric power plant.
The hydroelectric power plant was built at the mouth of the Kara-Suu River, which flows into the Naryn River, in the city of Kara-Kul in the Jalal-Abad region. The station is equipped with two hydroelectric units with a total installed capacity of 18 megawatts.
The average annual electricity generation is 104 million kilowatt-hours, which will reduce the country's electricity deficit by approximately 2.5% and increase the reliability of power supply to Kara-Kul and the Toktogul HPP cascade.
The project was implemented by a domestic investor, Zagalma LLC, at a cost of $25 million, with the subsequent transfer of the hydroelectric power plant to the state after 15 years of operation.
In his speech, the Head of State emphasized that the launch of the Kara-Kul HPP is one of the important events in the history of the energy sector of Kyrgyzstan.
