China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway project enters active construction phase

The Kyrgyz Ministry of Transport discussed the progress of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway project. Construction of tunnels, bridges and other infrastructure is currently underway at the site.

Almaz Turgunbaev, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, held a meeting with a delegation from the China State Railway Group, led by board member Wang Jinshi.

The parties noted that the project has entered an active phase of construction. The main international and investment agreements have already been signed, the main contractor has been appointed, and financing issues have been resolved.

The Kyrgyz side also emphasised the importance of engaging local workers and domestic manufacturers of construction materials and equipment. In addition, attention was paid to compliance with environmental requirements, the preservation of historical and cultural heritage sites, ensuring transparency in the work, and minimising the risks of corruption.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their intention to accelerate the pace of construction in order to complete the project within the set timeframe.

The China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway will become a new international transport corridor, which is set to expand Kyrgyzstan’s logistical capabilities, increase the country’s transit potential and strengthen trade and economic ties in the region.
