Industrial production in Kyrgyzstan rose by 7 percent, to 685 billion KGS

Industrial production in Kyrgyzstan reached 685.4 billion KGS in January–September. Compared to the same period last year, output increased by 7% in real terms, according to the National Statistics Committee at a press conference on October 15.

Among the sectors reported, the chemical and oil refining industries demonstrated the highest growth rates. Production of chemical products increased 2.3-fold, while production of refined petroleum products increased 1.9-fold.

Output of wood and paper products, as well as printed materials, rose significantly—by 41.3%. Production of vehicles increased by 39.4%, and that of construction materials by 29.1%.

More moderate growth was observed in the pharmaceutical industry, where growth stood at 13.6%, and in food production, including beverages and tobacco products, at 9.4%.

Mining increased by 7.3%, virtually matching the overall growth rate of the industrial sector.

In the energy sector, the positive trend was linked, in particular, to an increase in the volume of electricity and gaseous fuel distributed through the respective networks.

Despite significant growth in certain sectors, industry as a whole expanded noticeably more slowly than the construction sector, where output increased 1.6-fold. At the same time, industrial growth rates slightly exceeded those of agriculture (6.5%) and wholesale and retail trade (4.2%).

At the end of the first nine months, industry accounted for 18.4% of Kyrgyzstan’s GDP. It is the second-largest component of the economy after the service sector, which accounted for 48.7%.
