Kyrgyzstan's industry showed twofold growth without gold mining

Industry is gaining momentum — and doing so without relying on gold. According to data from the National Statistics Committee, between January and September, the country's enterprises produced industrial products worth 511.4 billion KGS. This is 10.2% more than a year earlier. But if we exclude gold mining, the growth was even greater — 22.2%.

This jump can be explained by the activity of the real sector of the economy. In particular, the production of medicines in the country increased 2.3 times, food products and tobacco products — by 40%, plastics and building materials — by 31.8%, paper and printing products — by 28.7%. The chemical and clothing industries also grew, by 17.7% and 8.5% respectively.

Growth was also recorded in mineral extraction, at 16.3%.

The energy sector also contributed to this growth. Electricity production increased by 11%. This made it possible to increase the total volume of electricity, gas and steam supply by 17.3%. Water supply and waste processing increased by almost 26%, which was facilitated by the expansion of water distribution systems across the country.

As a result, over the first nine months, industry contributed 1.7 percentage points to GDP growth, accounting for 17.5% of the economy.
