A small hydroelectric power plant, Ananyevo HPP, built with the support of the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund, has been commissioned in the Ak-Sui district of the Issyk-Kul region. The new facility will become an additional source of clean energy and increase the sustainability of the region's energy supply.

The project was implemented as part of an investment agreement signed two years ago. On 29 August, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov launched the plant as part of the opening of 67 new enterprises across the country.

The Ananyevo HPP has a capacity of 5.5 megawatts and an annual output of about 27 million kilowatt-hours. This will cover part of the needs of local residents and businesses, reducing the region's dependence on centralised electricity supplies.

During construction, a dam was built, a diversion pipeline over 6 kilometres long was laid, and a Pelton turbine capable of operating efficiently even at low water levels was installed.

‘Hydroelectric power plants are the most environmentally friendly type of electrical energy, helping to solve the country's energy deficit in the shortest possible time. The Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund invested $3.3 million in this project, and the total cost was about $5 million,’ said Artem Novikov, Chairman of the Board of the RKDF.

The Fund emphasises that the launch of the plant has strengthened the energy supply to the population and enterprises of the Issyk-Kul region, opened up new opportunities for economic growth and once again confirmed that Kyrgyzstan consistently supports the development of environmentally friendly energy.
