As of 23 March, the contractor had deployed 143 units of specialist equipment, and all mobilisation work has already been completed. Work is currently underway at the site to widen the verges, install drainage channels and mill the road surface.
The reconstruction of the 75-kilometre section began in 2025 in the Zheti-Oguz district. The project involves the construction of five bridges and eight underpasses, as well as the installation of pavements and street lighting in settlements along the route.
The work will be carried out in phases until 2028. Upon completion, a five-year warranty period for the road is provided.
As a reminder, Akchabar previously reported that the Government had ratified agreements on project financing with the ADB. The documents were signed on 4 November 2024 and provide for the allocation of $87 million in the form of a loan and $22.5 million in the form of a grant.
As part of the project, the reconstruction of the 75.2 km Barskoon–Karakol road is expected to improve transport accessibility in the region, enhance road safety and promote tourism development in Issyk-Kul.
