Kyrgyzstan’s telecommunications market grew by 6.3% to reach 39 billion KGS

In recent years, the structure of the telecommunications sector in Kyrgyzstan has changed dramatically. Whilst in 2013 there were 79 landline and 1,154 mobile phones per 1,000 people, by 2025 the number of landlines had fallen to 19, whilst the number of mobile phones remained at over 1,000 per 1,000 people.

In Kyrgyzstan, significant changes have taken place in the structure of the telecommunications market between 2013 and 2025. Across the country, there has been a steady decline in the number of landline telephones against a backdrop of rapid growth in mobile communications. The main reason for this trend was the mass shift of the population towards mobile technologies and the development of digital infrastructure, which led to a gradual reduction in landline connections and an increase in the number of mobile connections.

In 2013, there were 6,738 mobile phones and 459 landlines in the country. By 2025, these figures had changed to 7,848 mobile and 142 landline telephones. A similar trend is observed per 1,000 people: mobile communications remain dominant, whilst landline numbers continue to decline.

In 2025, there were 746 telephone exchanges operating in the country, of which 546 were in urban areas and 200 in rural areas. The value of telecommunications services exceeded 39 billion KGS, an increase of 6.3% compared to the previous year.

Over the decades, the telecommunications sector in Kyrgyzstan has evolved from post offices and horse-riding postmen in the 1930s to almost complete digitalisation. Today, mobile communications play a key role, providing the bulk of the country’s communications.
