A year earlier, the figure stood at 26.4, and in 2023 it was 28.9. Thus, over the past year alone, it has fallen by 8.3 per cent.
The change is even more pronounced when viewed over the long term. The highest figure for the period under review was recorded in 2014 — 43.3 births per 1,000 women aged 15–19. By 2025, it had fallen by approximately 44 per cent.
At the same time, the disparity between regions remains significant.
The highest rate in 2025 was recorded in Osh – 37.9 births per 1,000 women aged 15–19. This is followed by Osh Region – 34.2 – and Jalal-Abad Region – 29.4.
The lowest rate was recorded in Bishkek – 8.9. This is more than four times lower than in Osh. Low rates were also recorded in the Naryn Region – 13.3 – and the Issyk-Kul Region – 13.4.
In the Chui Region, the rate stood at 23.6; in the Batken Region, 23.7; and in the Talas Region, 18 births per thousand women of the relevant age.
There remains a disparity between urban and rural areas. In rural areas in 2025, the rate stood at 25.8, whilst in urban settlements it was 21.5. However, the gap is gradually narrowing. As recently as 2023, the rate in rural areas stood at 32.3, compared with 21.5 in towns and cities.
