In light of the forthcoming changes, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision held discussions with domestic plastic manufacturers and recyclers on how businesses can prepare for the new legislative requirements.
The meeting was attended by representatives of companies involved in the manufacture and recycling of plastic tableware and polymer bags.
Participants considered possible ways for businesses to adapt, including the transition to biodegradable materials, the development of environmentally friendly packaging and the expansion of plastic waste recycling capacity.
The role of the ‘Ecooperator’ Regional Public Organisation in supporting plastic waste recycling enterprises and creating conditions for the sector’s development was discussed separately.
Following the meeting, the need for collaboration between government bodies, manufacturers and recyclers was highlighted to ensure a phased transition to the new requirements. To further address these issues, the Ministry plans to set up a working group involving major manufacturers and recyclers.
The Ministry notes that the restrictions are aimed at reducing the volume of plastic waste and minimising the negative impact of polymer materials on the environment and public health.
