08/27/2025, 13:08Today, August 27, during a working trip to the Issyk-Kul region, President Sadyr Zhaparov launched a project for underground gold mining at the Kumtor Gold Company.
The head of state emphasized that the return of the Kumtor deposit to state ownership was one of the key events of recent years. Exactly three years ago, on August 23, 2022, the fate of Kumtor was finally decided in favor of Kyrgyzstan, and the enterprise became 100% state-owned.
“Work has officially begun on underground gold mining at the Kumtor deposit. This project is an important step towards protecting the environment and preserving the glaciers that have survived to this day,” the president noted.
