11/26/2024, 11:38Kyrgyzstan intends to significantly increase sugar production, reaching 200 thousand tons by 2030. Minvodselprom and “Sugar Cluster” of the Agro-Industrial Complex Development Association signed a memorandum.
The agreement is aimed at ensuring food security of the country by increasing the volume of domestic sugar. The Ministry will assist in providing land, financing (5 billion soms for 10 years at 6% per annum), marketing and protection of domestic producers from unfair competition in the EAEU markets and beyond.
In turn, “Cluster Sugar” undertakes to increase production to 200 thousand tons by 2030, maintain sufficient stocks in warehouses and open regional wholesale outlets. Continuous professional development of beet growers is also planned.
The harvest of 2024 was a record for the last 40 years: 900 thousand tons of sugar beets were harvested, which will allow to produce 120 thousand tons of sugar - a sufficient volume for full domestic consumption. However, the goal for the coming years is not only to maintain the achieved positions, but also to significantly increase production in order to enter export markets. Kyrgyzstan's annual demand for sugar is estimated at 120 - 145 thousand tons.
